PARAGOULD — Martha Brandon, a beloved resident of Paragould, passed away at her son's residence at Fayetteville on Saturday, May 16, 2009.
She was born at Wartrace, Tenn., on July 18, 1923, to Edd and Frances West.
Martha was preceded in death by her dear husband of 52 years, Morton, in 1997. They enjoyed their retirement years traveling with the Senior Bees.
Martha is survived by her two sons of Fayetteville, Jim and his wife Crystal and Edd; two grandsons, Land and Christopher; one sister, Barbara Terrell of Batesville; and several nieces and nephews.
At her passing she was surrounded by her loving family. A special note of thanks to Nancy Andreason, Edd's fiancée, for her loving care to our beloved mother.
A dedicated Methodist all of her life, Martha more than once recited the scripture, "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." Martha never met a stranger. Her friendly personality and engaging smile were well known throughout the community. Martha belonged to many organizations such as the Eastern Star, and was the United Methodist Women's treasurer of the North East chapter for 35 years. She was also a member of the Glenna Rose Circle. She enjoyed the companionship of her dear friends, whether it was exercising weekly at the community center, Red Hat Society, Widows Support Group or volunteer work at her beloved church.
Mr. and Mrs. Brandon operated One Hour Cleaners for many years. After the sale of the business, Martha became the administrative secretary at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center until her retirement.
A celebration of her life will be in the First United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. today. Graveside services will be held in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens at Shelbyville, Tenn.
In lieu of flowers, a School of Missions Memorial fund has been established in her honor.
Heath Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
