James Sarsfield Barron was born January 16, 1853, at Durand, Wisconsin, and passed away in Portland, Oregon, December 31, 1929, at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 15 days of age. In 1876 he was united in marriage to Mary Coon.
To this union were born twelve children, five having preceded their father in death. The seven living include Earnest Barron of Vermillion, South Dakota, Mrs. Treva Stewart of San Francisco, California, Charles B. Barron of St. Paul, Minnesota, Irving J. Barron of Iowa City, Iowa, Mrs. Eva Pixler of Portland, Oregon, William J. Barron of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Mrs. Anne Rogers of Brookings, South Dakota. All but two, the daughters of the west, were able to attend services. The wife and mother passed away May 28, 1923.
Mr. Barron lived in Correctionville nearly thirty years. Here most of his family were reared and distinguished themselves under the care of their parents. He was janitor in the public school nearly all of this time and there are many who are now grown who will remember his loving, cheerful and friendly care of the children.
He was a faithful member of the Catholic Church. About six years ago he went to Oregon. He returned once to Correctionville but when he went back west, he said "Farewell!" for this life and his friends. He gradually weakened until his death.
Services were held at the home of J.A. Coon January 6, 1930, and interment was made beside his wife in the Correctionville Cemetery overlooking the scenes of his labors in earlier days. The Wilson Service was in charge of arrangements. They went to Sioux City and met the body and brought it here in their ambulance. Rev. J.S. Deedrick of the Evangelical Church presided at the funeral.
