He was born on November 20, 1867 in Green County, Wisconsin to Austina and Catherine (Conway) Arthur, who were both born in County Mayo, Ireland.
"Gus" married Sarah Jane "Sadie" Scott on the 1 of April of 1894 in Green County, Wisconsin. They lived in Wisconsin until 1902. In the spring of 1902, the family came to Nebraska, from Green County, Wisconsin and they lived for a year on a farm near Comstock, when they moved to their farm 7 miles north of Broken Bow. In 1942 Gus moved into Broken Bow.
Gus always liked to sing Irish songs to his children, such as "Rings on Her Fingers" and "My Wild Irish Rose".
He was a wonderful dancer and could dance the Irish Jig, that his father from Ireland had taught him.
Gus's wife Sadie died in Broken Bow in 1929.
Gus died the 1st of March of 1949, shortly after the Blizzard of 1949. He is buried in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Broken Bow.
