Birth: Jan. 11, 1884

Death: Dec. 22, 1955
Marion County
Missouri, USA

Maudie (Wilson) Holman was this writer's great aunt, a sister to my maternal grandmother Della (Wilson) Thurman.

Maudie was the daughter of William Abram Wilson (1857-1933) who was born in Wheeling, Marshall County, West Virginia, and died in Callao, Macon County, Missouri; and Mary Ellen (Sims) Wilson who was born and died in Macon County, Missouri.

Maudie had the following siblings:

Della Mamie Wilson 1885 1969
Carnie Owen Wilson 1888 1935
Virgle Perry Wilson 1891 1927
Ernest Evert Wilson 1894 1906
Orville Wilson 1902 1987

Maudie became a county school teacher in her community. She met another young school teacher in the area named William Mountjoy King "Mount" Holman. Her father did not approve of their courtship or any plans to marry, so on March 2, 1902, the couple eloped and were married on horseback.

The Holmans made their home in Macon County, Missouri for many years where both continued to teach school for a time. They had the following children:

Marlin Kleo Holman 1904 1966
Clyde Wilson Holman 1905 1976
Mary Matilda Holman 1907 1991
Anna Laura Holman 1911 1983
John Abram Holman 1914 1978
Helen Ethelyeen Holman 1923 2008

In 1918 when Mount registered for the World War I Draft, the family's address was Route 2, Callao, Macon County, Missouri.

In 1931, the Holmans purchased a dry good store in Monroe City, Missouri and ran this for several years. Later, they moved on to Hannibal, Marion County, Missouri where they spent the rest of their lives.

Maudie died in 1955 and was buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hannibal. Mount married again to Trinnie Gofinch. Mount died in 1960 and was buried beside Maudie.
