Myrtle Evelin Dennis was the daughter of Chester Willard Dennis (1874-1923) who was born in Illinois and Meda June Richardson (1877-1950) born in Adair County, Missouri. Myrtle's parents were living in Macon County, Missouri when they met and married on January 1, 1903 in Elmer, Missouri.

Myrtle was never married. Her father died when she was 15 years old and she along with her siblings had to be farmed out to work for their room and board. Her brothers became farmhands, and Myrtle and her sister Della lived in the homes of elderly people in the community for most of their lives as caretakers/companions.
When the wife of Myrtle's younger brother Tom Dennis was in poor health, she went to Kirksville, Missouri to live with and care for them. [These were this writer's parents.] She enjoyed doing domestic things like cooking, cleaning, and sewing. She had a unique way of doing things and had learned to get by in hard times.
When her brother's wife died, she continued to live with her brother. Tom's only child [this writer] took care of their business and Myrtle was able to live in his home until she died of a stroke on October 18, 1991.
Myrtle Evelin Dennis, age 83, of 701 W. LaHarpe St., Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Friday evening, October 18, 1991 in a Kirksville hospital of an apparent stroke. Born June 4, 1908 in Elmer, Missouri, she was the daughter of Chester Willard and Meda June (Richardson) Dennis.
She attended the Bunch country school in Macon County, Missouri, and the Elmer School. She spent her entire life living with and caring for elderly persons in their homes in Macon and Adair Counties. She never married. In 1980 she moved to Kirksville, Missouri to care for her brother and sister-in-law, Tom and LuVella Dennis.
Myrtle was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Dennis in infancy, and Calvin Dennis; and by one sister, Della Dennis. She is survived by 3 brothers and one sister-in-law, Tom Dennis of Kirksville, John Dennis of Peoria, Illinois, and Everett and Opal Dennis of Elmer, Missouri; 3 nieces and nephews, Blytha Ellis of Kirksville, Mo., Betty Cook of Joliet, Illinois, and Frances Calvin Dennis of Washington, Illinois; 6 great-nieces and nephews, Tiffany and Matthew Ellis of Kirksville, Pam Gierich and Patty Bailey of Joliet, Illinois, Karen Dennis of Chicago, Illinois, and Mark Dennis of Florida.; and 5 great, great nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the Elmer Baptist Church, Elmer, Mo. She attended the First Assembly of God Church while living in Kirksville, Mo. Before her death, she attended the Twin Pines Adult Day Care Program in Kirksville. Myrtle loved to sew and cook.
Graveside services were held October 21, 1991 at the Elmer Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Fredricks, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Kirksville, Mo., officiating.
