MALAD — Evan Eugene Jones, 83, passed away early Saturday, March 10, 2012, with his family by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 21, 1928, at Cherry Creek, Idaho, a son of Hyrum John and Ruby Elizabeth Ascherman Jones. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Cherry Creek. He, with his brother, Steve, entered the United States Air Force on January 29, 1948. He spent the next four years in various parts of Germany. He was honorably discharged and returned home to begin employment with the Federal Aviation Agency, where he worked as an electrical technician.
He lived in Oregon and then moved to Burley, Idaho, where he met the "love of his life," Patricia Ann Edwards. They were married on July 18, 1964. To his delight, he "inherited" four handsome sons, whom he loved dearly and they loved him.
Evan enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved hunting, fishing and doing things with his brothers and family. He loved old cars and took great pride in his Model A. Evan was a jack-of-all-trades and with his beloved daughter-in-law, Sandy, would find a way to fix almost anything.
He was known for his talent of building beautiful scroll clocks, which he gave away to friends and family. He was proud of his beautiful flower garden and well-kept yard. Evan was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Malad; three sons, Kenneth (Sandy) Thomasen of Malad, Idaho, Scott (Mary) Thomasen of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Calvin Thomasen of Salt Lake City, Utah. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; one sister and three brothers, Margie Lowry of McCammon, Bob (Marrdella) Jones of Clarkston, Utah, Montie (India) Jones of Reno, Nevada, Billy (Sherrie) Jones of Smithfield, Utah; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Jones of Malad and Iris Jones of Logan, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Alvin Thomasen, three sisters and eight brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2012, at noon in the Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., in Malad.
