RICHARD DEAN HAMMER
Richard Dean Hammer, son of Earl and Doris (Castner) Hammer, was born on February 16, 1922, in Chance, SD, and grew up and received his early education in Rabbit Creek, SD. Richard enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 and served overseas. After his discharge in 1946, he made his home in Lemmon, SD, where he attended Northwest Bible College.
Richard was united in marriage to Arlene Jorgenson on December 22, 1950, in Lemmon, where the couple made their home. In 1957 they moved to Dilworth, MN, and later to Moorhead, MN. He worked as a salesman for twenty-five years at Furniture City, Fargo, ND, retiring in 1986.
Richard was a charter member of the Church of God, Fargo. He was an excellent mechanic and loved working on antique cars and bicycles. He also enjoyed camping with his family.
Richard D. Hammer died on Wednesday, December 13, 2000, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, at the age of 78.
Richard is survived by his wife, Arlene, Moorhead; two daughters, Kristi (Bruce) Moltzan, Columbia, MO, and Karen (Mark) Iverson, New Hope, MN; three sons, Kevin (Beth), Golden Valley, MN, Kenton, Brooklyn Park, MN, and Kenneth (Denise), Lynwood, MN; thirteen grandchildren; two brothers, Guy, Lake Havasu, AZ, Dwight, Lincoln, NE; and one sister, Joy Crawford, Lincoln, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
