Frances Clarke was born on the family farm to John and Eva (Schmidt) Kieffer. She married Myron C. 'Red' Clarke on June 6, 1948, in Sioux Falls, SD. She graduated from Mitchell Beauty School, Mitchell, SD, in 1940, and was employed as a beautician in Sioux Falls. She graduated with a teachers certificate from Sioux Falls College in 1944. She taught in the Jerauld County, SD, rural schools. She owned and operated Fran's Ceramics in Chadron, NE, and Clinton, MO. She later moved to Quincy, IL, and along with her husband, owned and operated Michael's Dress Shop. She moved to Sauk Rapids in 1978 and owned and operated Fran's Alterations until 1982. She had been a resident of Country Manor Health Care Center since October 1998. She volunteered for the American Red Cross and was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Quincy, IL.

Frances & Myron were the parents of 2 children; Carla & Lance.
