Morris Charles Barrett, 83, of Hobbs, N.M., died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at his home.
He was born May 27, 1917, in Gober.
He married Theo Perkins on Sept. 3, 1995, in Seminole. He attended Draughons Business School in Lubbock. He worked for Swiss Meat Packing in Chicago, Ill. and Palmer, Mass.
He moved to Hobbs in 1949 and opened an accounting firm, later joining with his brother, Doyce in Barrett and Barrett Accounting.
He was active in the American Legion, Lions Club, VFW and the Parkinson's Support Group.
He received the Soldier's medal while serving as a captain in the Air Force during World War II with the 490th bomber group. He also served in the anti-sub group in Florida and served later with the National Guard for several years.
He was also a charter member of First National Bank of Hobbs, serving on the board of directors for many years. and was also a member of the New Mexico Society of Public Accountants.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Sidney and Danny, both of Hobbs and Vance of Duncan, Okla.; two brothers, Doyce of Bullard and Harold Gene of Anton; three stepdaughters, Karan Williams of Mount Dora, Fla., Gayla Maypole of El Cajon, Calif., and Traci Williams of Corpus Christi; a stepson, Cecil Williams of Atlanta, Ga.; six grandchildren; an adopted granddaughter; and three stepgrandchildren.
