Phillip Hoffman Shannon is the son of Daniel Shannon. He married Lavina Thomas, daughter of Michael Thomas and Lydia Thomas (nee Delp).
Brookville Jefferson Democrat dated March 11, 1885:
Phillip Shannon, on whose death we spoke of last week, was born on the 30th of January 1823, near the present village of Millville, in Clarion county, then Armstrong.
In 1844 he removed to the village of Ringgold, in Jefferson County, and engaged in merchandizing. While residing here he was elected High Sheriff of Jefferson county in 1860. He at once removed to Brookville, where he resided until the fall of 1882, when he removed to near Lawsonham, Clarion county, where he was engaged in production of coal, lime, and iron ore.
He died at his home near Lawsonham, on the 28th of February, 1885, after quite an extended illness, and was buried in the new cemetery, at Brookville, on Mar 2nd.
His wife with two children, a son and daughter grown to manhood and womanhood, survive him.
During a considerable portion of his life, Sheriff Shannon was actively engaged in the business enterprises of Jefferson county. He was a man of considerable intelligence, and a very genial disposition, which drew around him a large circle of acquaintances. His death adds another name of the long list of county officials who have passed away.
Thank you, Pamela Reitz, for providing the obituary.
