HOPEDALE, IL - Betty Sidell Everly Burlingame, 70, of Bloomington, formerly of Hopedale, died at 6:35 AM Friday October 23, 2009 at Heartland ManorCare in Normal, IL.
She was born December 8, 1938 in Pekin .
Surviving are one half sister, Marie Heublein and her son; ten children; 22 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Imogene Stone Sidell Kettering and James Heublein, her husband, James Gale Everly, one son, John James Everly, one granddaughter, Jessica Eckhoff, and one great grandson, Cameron Mitchell.
Betty was a much loved and special woman. She grew up in difficult circumstances and worked very hard to make something of herself. She married James Gale Everly at the age of sixteen. They raised six beloved children up until the passing of her husband. Years later, she married Henry Burlingame Jr., then adding four more to their big family. They raised ten children.
Betty continued her education at Illinois State University and Illinois Central College getting her Bachelor's in juvenile psychology. She helped support her family in any way she could, no matter if it was washing and ironing patron's cloths, bartending, working as a cashier, librarian, nurse's aide at Hopedale Hospital, and Co-owner of the Phillips 66 gas station in Hopedale. She also was employed at the IRS for sixteen years. She was involved in many clubs and organizations such as F.A.T.E. (Fighting against the toxic environment), D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution), Tazewell County Genealogy Society, Women of the Moose, and she was a founding member of the Hopedale Library. She was also a notary public.
Betty was a passionate catholic and attended St. Joseph 's Church in Hopedale.
She later moved to Bloomington to be closer to her family. She was much loved and will be sorely missed by all who loved her. Betty passed away due to complications of cancer.
Her funeral will be at 1:00 PM Monday, October 26, 2009 at Davis Mortuary in Hopedale. Steve Novel will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 to 12:45 PM Monday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Orendorff Cemetery , rural Hopedale.
