N. Aldwyn Barden,
age 95 of Boyne City passed away on Monday, October 25, 2010 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey.
Aldwyn was born on October 29, 1914 in Petoskey the son of F.O. Barden and Mable Barden. He grew up in Boyne City and graduated from Boyne City High School in 1932. Aldwyn then went on to Michigan State University and graduated in 1936. On October 11, 1937 he married Jean Saller in Petoskey.
In 1922 his father F.O. Started a lumber yard in Boyne City and Aldwyn began to work in the family business in 1936 until he retired in 1979. Over the years Aldwyn was very active in the community. He served thirteen years as a city commissioner and six years as the mayor of Boyne City. For thirty-six years Aldwyn was a member of the Boyne City Rotary Club and a past president and secretary of the club. He was also a member of St. Matthews Church in Boyne City. Aldwyn loved his family and enjoyed bowling, golf and playing cards, especially Bridge.
Aldwyn is survived by his three children Barbara (Richard) Maracell, Ed (Glory) Barden and Carole (Stan) Huffman; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brother and two sisters.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 3:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday, October 31, 2010 at Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City.
A funeral mass will be held 10:30 am Monday, November 1, 2010 at St. Matthews Church in Boyne City. Fr. Denny Stilwell will be serving as celebrant. Inturment will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to St. Matthews Church, Hospice of Little Traverse Bay or Northern Michigan Regional Hospital.
