Laurel M. Dicicco, age 85, passed away on Jan. 30, 2011 from complications from cancer and Alzheimer's Disease. A lifelong Victorville resident, born Laurel May Norton, Sept 4, 1925 in Laurel, Montana, the fourth child of Clair and Nellie Norton (as her family traveled across America to settle in California). Moving to Victorville in 1928, Laurel grew up on 1st Street, attending Old Victor School and graduating from Victor Valley High School in June of 1944. Even before graduation, meeting the love of her life, Joe Dicicco, who at that time was stationed at what was then, the Victorville Army Air Field. They were married in August 1944 (during wartime). Mom spent the first year of marriage working on airplanes. After the war, they remained in Victorville raising three daughters and eventually building and running their family business, Joe's Chicken Kitchen, known for the first New York Pizza made and sold in Victorville. After her children were raised, Laurel became devoted to her love of doll collecting and her dream of writing not just one but three books dedicated to doll collecting. She was a member and past President of the High Desert Doll Club. She is survived by: Daughter and Son-in-Law Annette & Chuck Jenkins of Eugene OR, Daughter and Son-in-Law Helen & Chris Pambianco of Hesperia CA, Daughter and Son-in-Law Joan & Russ Johnson of Victorville CA, Brother & Sister-in-Law Victor & Chris Norton, Grandchildren, Joe Jenkins, John Jenkins, Stephanie Simms, John Pambianco, Gina Kerby, Delaina Hampton & Sean Johnson & 11 great-grandchildren & numerous nieces & nephews. Laurel will be laid to rest next to her husband, of 38 years, Joe, on Friday Feb 4, 2011 at Victor Valley Memorial Park. The graveside service to begin at 11am.
