MRS. BRUTY WAS NATIVE OF FRANCE Had Lived in the community for many years--Funeral to be held Monday.
"Mrs. Cecile Bruty, who died yesterday noon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. T. J. Dempsey, 321 West Jefferson street, was born at Roppe, France. February 21 1840. Her name before marriage was Cecile Mottet, and she was a daughter of Xavier and Catherine (Gerot) Mottet, who emigrated to America when she was thirteen years of age. They came to Washington county and lived in the Crawfordsville community for a year, then moving to English River township.
She was married October 13 1858 to Alexander Bruty, and they lived on a farm three and one-half miles east of Richmond until they came to Washington in 1872. Mr. Bruty died here April 5 1888. For the last twenty-three years she had lived with her daughter. Mrs. Dempsey.
Other children who survive are Mrs. Amelia McBride of Omaha, Mrs. Catherine B. Lowry of Omaha and Frank Bruty of south of town. Five children are deceased. Mrs. Cella Roth, a daughter, died sixteen years ago, and the others many years before that. She also leaves two brothers Lee Mottet of Iowa City and John Riverside, and Mrs. Clara Mingo of Oakland, California. There are 32 grandchildren and 17 great children.
Mrs. Bruty had been in poor health for the last year, but her death was the result of a stroke of paralysis last Saturday night.
Funeral services will be held next Monday morning at nine o'clock in the St. James Catholic church of which she was a faithful and devoted member. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery."
