Richard Franklin Atchley was the firstborn child of James Benjamine and Margaret Elizabeth (Kennedy) Atchley on May 28, 1900 in Trenton, Jackson County, Alabama (1900 US Census Alabama the census records Richard as Nathan because of the date 1900 recorded in June Richard is 0/12 years old). James and Margaret had two more children both died during their infancy. The Atchley family moved to Oklahoma and began farming.

Richard married Alice King in Ione, Oklahoma September 30, 1923. They had three children: Frances Louise, Homer Ray, and Frankie Lajuanna who died at 6 1/2 years old from scarlet fever.

Richard and Alice lived in Wynnewood, OK for many years. Richard worked in a broom factory and worked as a school crossing guard during his life.

Richard and Alice enjoyed helping raise their grandchildren: Harl, Elaine, Don and Richard Ray.

In April 1982, Richard was diagnosed with cancer and passed away April 15, 1982 at Commanche Memorial Hospital in Lawton, OK at the age of 81.

Services were held Saturday, April 17, at the Church of Christ with Lyle Marsellis and Ray Russell officiating.

Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood OK under the direction of Wynnewood Funeral Home.
