ABNER FRY OBITUARY 12-31-1906 Post #89 Haller City (Arlington)
Abner Fry, a well-known veteran of the Civil War, died suddenly at his home, this place, Dec. 31st. He was alone at the time and was found sitting in a chair, having, it is supposed, died of heart failure. The funeral occurred Jan. 2nd from the Free Methodist church. Rev. Esher conducting the services. A very large and sympathetic concourse of relatives and friends were present. The remains were bourne to their last resting place in Harwood cemetery by the following comrades of the Civil War: S.H. Hansley, W.H. Thacker, Frank Rawley, Wm. Kunze, Thos Sedgewick and Wm. Berry. Abner Fry was born at Greenville, Penn., Jan. 1, 1830; died Arlington, Wash., Dec. 31, 1905 thus lacking one day of being 76 years old. He left his native home when 21 years of age and settled in ILL but later moved to Ark., where he resided until 8 years ago, when he came to Arlington. He enlisted in the Union Army in August 1862, joining Co. E 25th Wi. Vol. He served as a color sergeant and bore the Stars and Stripes through many a stubbornly contested battle while with Sherman's Army in the march to the sea. Nine children out of a family of 13 survive him. They are L.C. Fry, Oso; Samantha Houldsworth of IA; Lueli Mose of this place; Wm. Amel and John Fry and Eliza Pugh of Ind.,George Fry of Darrington and Herman Fry of Deming. He was devoted to the memory of his first wife, who died in 1890.
