Mary Anne Cone departed this life May 20, 2010, in Charlotte, after a long battle with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
Born February 15, 1933, in Summerville, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Losse Cone and Annie Wheler Cone.
Miss Cone graduated from North Charleston High School and was valedictorian of her class. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree cum laude from the University of South Carolina at Columbia, a certificate in Anesthesia for Nurses from the Medical University of South Carolina and a Master of Science in Education degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.
After graduation from the University of South Carolina, she worked for ten years as the office nurse for Dr. Thomas William Messervy. Then she began work at the Medical University of South Carolina and retired from there after thirty years of service. During these years she served as staff certified registered nurse anesthetist and clinical instructor, assistant director and director for the Anesthesia for Nurses Program.
She was a life-long member of the Summerville Presbyterian Church and a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, the North Carolina Association of Nurse Anesthetists, the Rebecca Mott Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Stonewall Jackson Chapter #220, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Surviving is a sister, Aleene Cone Deaton, a brother-in-law William Alexander Deaton, Sr. of Charlotte, NC; two nephews, William Alexander Deaton, Jr. and wife Leslie of Charlotte and John Cone Deaton and wife Jennifer of Rochester Hills, MI; two great-nephews, Alexander Campbell Deaton and Philip John Deaton and two great-nieces, Allyson Catherine Deaton and Shanna Kathryn Deaton.
Burial was in Summerville Cemetery.
