Son of Robert Bell Clanton and Sarah Aveline Burgess; husband of Vesta Odessa Cowan.


Garland Clanton ESCONDIDO - Garland H. "Pat Clanton, 78, of 2264 Bernardo Ave., Escondido, died Wednesday in Texas, where he had gone for a visit. Born Sept. 28, 1892 in Veron, Ala., he came to Escondido in 1937. From 1945 to 1959, he was employed in the parks and recreation department of the City of Escondido.


He served with the U.S. Army in World War I and was a member of American Legion Post 149, American Legion, Escondido. Surviving are three daughters, Tommie Chatham and Mary Sabin, both of Escondido, and Clara Parker of Georgetown, Tex.; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a sister and a brother.


A service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Alhiser-Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Wymon L. Witt, pastor of the Orange Glen Baptist Church of Escondido, will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Memorial Park.
