Dale W. DEEDS, 86, of 951 E. Ninth St., Rochester, died at 8:15 a.m. Saturday at Life Care Center of Rochester.

He was born in Roann to Guy and Emma Mahala Clingaman Deeds.

Dale was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Rochester. He was a Past Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star, a Past Master of Gilead Masonic Lodge, both of Gilead, and a member of the IOOF Lodge in Deedsville. Dale was a former heavy equipment operator and co-owner of Deeds Brothers Construction in Deedsville. Dale graduated from Winamac High School in 1938. On June 29, 1941, he married the love of his life, Violetta Fay Clark. They were married for almost 60 years before her death on May 11, 2001. Dale and Vi were members of Swingin' Dudes Square Dance Club in Rochester. He was an avid gardener who loved to share his vegetables with family, friends and neighbors. He loved people and never met a stranger. Dale was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran where he was gunnery instructor. He loved his granddog, Valentine.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Karen S. and Allen Heltzel, Akron; grandsons and wives, Dale Allen and Kim Heltzel, Akron, Thomas F. and Lynn Heltzel, Lafayette, and Hans W. and Shauna Heltzel, Fishers; six great-grandchildren, Ethan, Bailey, Victoria, Vanessa, Amanda and Andrew; two sisters, Delores Ann Lowe, Dunkirk, and Sandra M. Miller, Peru; two brothers, Lyle Dean Deeds, Denver, and Jerry E. Deeds, Macy; and special friend, Cleo Preskewitz, Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Violetta Fay Clark Deeds; one sister, Jean Louise Sheppard; two brothers, William Carter Deeds and Guy R. Deeds; and two infant children.
