John J. Roberts Jr.
Worked 25 years at Merrimack Wayside Furniture Co.

John J. Roberts Jr., 70, of Lowell, Mass., died Saturday morning, Sept. 26, 1998, in Lowell after an extended illness.

For 25 years, Mr. Roberts had been associated with Merrimack Wayside Furniture Co. in Nashua. More recently, he had been employed by the city of Lowell with the Election Commission and later served on the Massachusetts Energy Conservation Commission.

At the time of his passing, he was a deputy sheriff with the Middlesex County Sheriffs Department.

Mr. Roberts held membership in the Boston American Legion and the National Sheriffs Association.

In February 1945, he entered the service and served in the Pacific and China Theaters with the 6th Marine Division, 3rd Battalion, 29th Marines during World War II. He was also a veteran of the Korean War. He was honorably discharged.

Mr. Roberts was a communicant of St. Michael Church.

He received his education in the Lowell school system.

Mr. Roberts was born in Lowell on July 9, 1928, son of the late John J. Roberts and Annie V. (Garrity) Roberts, and had been a resident of Lowell for most of his life.

Mr. Roberts was the widower of his first wife, Phyllis (Saracino) Roberts, and was also predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Roberts.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn (Donnelly) (Johnson) Roberts two daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy (Jackson) Roberts of Lowell and Sheila and Rene Morin of Belmont, Mass. two grandchildren, Tracy Jackson of Lowell and Robert D. Jackson, formerly of Lowell and now of California four stepchildren and two stepchildren-in-law, Donna and Linden Glidden of Wolfeboro, John Johnson of Merrimack, James Johnson of Addison, Maine, and Donald and Michelle Johnson of Litchfield six sisters and three brothers-in-laws, Marion and James Sweeney of Nashua, Rita Coughlin of Dracut, Mass., Eileen Shea of Derry, Anne and Edward Casey of Lowell, Sister Helen Roberts of Milton, Mass., and Lally and Bing Curran of Dracut four brothers and three sister-in-laws, Francis and Julia Roberts of Marlborough, Mass., Walter and Karen Roberts of Brattleboro, Vt., Frederick and Theresa Roberts of Chelmsford, Mass., and Paul Roberts of Kennebunk, Maine nine stepgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The Fay McCabe Funeral Home in Lowell, Mass., is in charge of arrangements.

ROBERTS - Died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, in Lowell, Mass. John J. Roberts Jr., 70. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of World War II and Korea. Funeral is Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. from The FAY-McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 Moore St., Lowell, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Michael Church at 11 a.m. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury, Mass. Calling hours are on Monday from 7 to 9 and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Friends may make memorial donations in his name to the charity of their choice. Funeral directors Ed ward I. McCabe and Son.
