Richard was the son of John Lewis Hankins and Francis Ann (Lee) Hankins. He married Mary Nancy Ellen Harrison on December 21, 1881 in Wapello, Louisa County, Iowa.
OBITUARY OF RICHARD W. HANKINS (1853-1933)
Former Resident of Louisa County Dies at Home After Two Day Illness.
Tipton - R[ichard] W. Hankins, 80, a former resident of Louisa County [Iowa], died at his home at Tipton Tuesday night [Dec. 12, 1933] at 10:30 after an illness of two days.
Mr. Hankins was born April 21, 1853, at Sidney, Ohio, and moved with his parents [John and Francis (Lee) Hankins)
to Louisa County [Iowa] when still a child. He remained in Louisa County until 30 years ago when he moved to Tipton [Cedar County, Iowa].
He married Mary [Nancy Ellen] Harrison of Letts [Iowa] on December 21, 1881, and the widow and five children survive him.
The children are Clyde of Cedar Rapids; Orville of Davenport; [Charles] Roscoe of Detroit, Michigan; Mrs. Neva Harris of Cedar Rapids; and Mrs. Will McCann [sic, McMahon] of West Liberty. Nineteen grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held at the home Friday afternoon [Dec. 15, 1933] at 1 o'clock. Burial will be held in the Masonic Cemetery."
