Lydia Elizabeth Rebecca Natschke was born in Cissna Park, Illinois to Alexander Natschke and Carlena Freiboth.
Lydia had three sisters: Anna, born in 1888; Elise, born in 1893 and Maria, who was born in 1899. She also had two brothers: John, born in 1891 and Wilhelm, born in 1899.
In the 1900 Census, the Natschke family was living in Ash Grove, Iroquois County, Illinois. Lydia's father, Alexander, was a farmer.
Lydia married Carl "Ben" Benjamin Obenland on Sept. 9, 1914. John and Lydia had three sons; Carl Raymond, Melvin Christian and John Fredrick.
In 1920, Lydia and Ben were living in Mark Township, Defiance County, Ohio. Ben was a farmer. By the 1930 Census, they had moved to Butler Township in Vermillion County, where Ben also farmed. By then all three of their boys had been born.
Also living with the family was Ben's father, 80 year old Christian Obenland. Since Christian's farm was in Bulter Township, Ben and Lydia might have been living at his place. In fact, they could have moved back to Vermillion County to help take care of Christian as he got older.
Lydia passed away on August 2, 1984. She was buried next to her husband in Sheldon Cemetery.
