She married Austin Beidler about 1888. He was the son of Henry S. Beidler and Elizabeth (Gish) Beidler.

They became the parents to six children; Herbert Beidler, Harry Beidler, Jay Beidler, Harland Daniel Beidler, Thelma (Beidler) Harris and Edna (Beidler) Kiel.

Melissa passed away February 2,1937 in La Grande, Union county, Oregon and was laid to rest in the Wallowa Cemetery, outside Wallowa, Oregon.

The Wallowa Sun Newspaper, Wallowa, Wallowa County, Oregon, dated (Thursday) February 1937.

Mrs. Melissa Beidler, for more than half a century a resident of Wallowa, passed away at her home in La Grande early Tuesday morning as a result of heart disease. Mrs. Beidler had been in poor health since a year ago last July but much of the time was able to be up and kept moving about in her usual manner. Since Christmas, however, she had been bedridden and gradually grew weaker until the end came.

Mrs. Beidler came to Wallowa county with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred, in 1883 when she was a girl thirteen years old from Kansas, where she was born, Sept. 29, 1870.

They made the trip in the old pioneer style with wagon and team, and in another wagon belonging to the same train was Austin Beidler and his folks also coming from Kansas.

On Thanksgiving day four years later she and Mr. Beidler were married and but a short time spent in Idaho and Elgin, Wallowa was their home until his death July 8, 1934. That fall Mrs. Beidler went to La Grande where she made her home with her son Harley, and Mrs. Edna Kiel.

Mr. and Mrs. Beidler were the parents of eight children, three of whom preceded her in death. The living are: Herbert, Harley and Mrs. Edna Kiel of La Grande, Harry of Lostine and Mrs. Leslie Harris of Wallowa.

She also is survived by six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two brothers, Sherman Alford of Stockton, California and George Alford of Mountain View, California.

Service will be held today at 1:30 from the Christian Church.
