William Tell Lehnherr went by "Tell". Tell married (1) Anna E. Smith, 25 June 1876; (2) Eleanor Anna Spires, 5 October 1887 in Myrtle Point, Coos County, Oregon.
Tell moved with his parents and family from Happy Valley, Douglas County, Oregon (near Green) to Myrtle Point as a young boy. His father at one time owned the entire townsite of Myrtle Point.
At age 15, Tell acted as chief clerk in a grocery store owned by his father, Christian. Later, for 12 years, he operated a dray line (with brother-in-law, Lloyd Spires)and a mail route and then became a stock rancher on a ranch in Curry County.
The family was still living in Myrtle Point in 1900. They then moved to a ranch in Curry County. Their next domicile was with their daughter Alice and her husband David Norcross who lived in Metzger, Washington County, Oregon.
Tell Lehnherr was a small, wiry man, a frontiersman-type, good-hearted, and a fine horseman.
Note: The above birth data came from Tell's son; however, in an article published in the "Southern Coos County American" Sept. 24, 1925, Tell stated that he was born in Clackamas County. Research is continuing.
