Katherine Nagornuk Dadak (Dudkowa) was born in the Ukraine in 1871 but we do not have her parents names and immigration records list her last known residence as Zasyaslowski, Ukraine which can not be located on any modern day map. Katherine married at least 2 times (first husband unknown) and had at least one child before she married her second husband in her 40's, Joseph Dadak, who was from the Repki region of the Ukraine. Together they immigrated to the US between 1911 and 1913, Joseph arriving first and Katherine and children behind. Joseph eventually bought a farm in Dracut Massachusetts sometime before 1930 and life was hard but the promise of freedom, peace and the ability to raise their family and earn a living was fulfilled in the land of opportunity.

Katherine had several children. Mary Dadak Dilendik was born to Katherine by her first husband in the Ukraine in 1903 and Mary immigrated with her mother and 2 other 1/2 siblings to the US landing in Philadelphia in 1913 at the age of 10 on the ship Merion that departed from Liverpool England. Katherine was traveling behind her husband with a young daughter named Herpina who became ill on the trip and delayed their departure from England by 2 months. Herpina passed away in Liverpool on March 5th, 1913 of pneumonia or scarlet fever at the age of 2 years and is buried in Lancashire, Liverpool Walton Park cemetery. Shortly after, Katherine and her remaining children continued onto and arrived in the U.S. on March 20, 1913.

Katherine's son with Joseph, George, was born in 1905 in the Ukraine and immigrated with his mother at the age of 7 years old. Katherine's last child with Joseph, Anastasia, was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts in 1915, the first natural born citizen and American in the family. In addition to her children, Katherine immigrated with an unmarried step daughter age 16, Katerina, daughter of Joseph Dadak from a previous marriage. The last name on the immigration records vary from the modern spelling "Dudkowa or Dudak" but the family spelled the name as Dadak.

Katherine lived a long life and for this is well remembered by her grandchildren. She died at the Anlaw Nursing Home in Lawrence, Massachusetts at 92 on December 18, 1963 due to broncho pneumonia, gastrointestinal malignancy and arteriosclerosis. Her last known residence was her daughter Anastasia's home at 209 High Street in Lawrence where she lived with her grandchildren before being moved to the nursing home where she could receive medical care. Her son, George and daughter Mary Dilendik (mother of Olga listed on the headstone) as well as Anastasia Dadak Lutz remained in the Lawrence and Dracut areas until their deaths and never returned to the Ukraine. Katherine was preceded in death by one known brother Zachar Nagornuck who lived in Lowell, Massachusetts.
