Was a farmer, he owned what is now known as the Dawley Farm in Fayetteville, NY. He had no children.

Death Of A Prominent Citizen - In the death of Richard J. Todd, which occured at his home on Salt Springs Street, January 10, Fayetteville loses one of its best and most trusted citizens and one who had won himself many devoted friends who sincerely mourn his sudden death. Mr. Todd was siezed with a severe stroke of apolexy on the afternoon of January 6th, and continued in a semi conscious state until Sunday, when he died at 5 o'clock. He had recently returned from a pleasant southern trip, visiting relatives in Baltimore, Philadelphia and Brooklyn, and was apparently in the best of health until he was suddenly stricken. Richard Todd was the third of six children born to Timothy and Elizabeth Swain Todd and was born in Manlius, September 11, 1835. Of these six children, four are now living: Mrs. Laura A. Conklin whose home was with Mr. Todd, Mrs. John Conklin of East Onondaga, Mr. William E. Todd of Philadelphia, and Mrs. Henry P, Todd of Spencerport, Monroe County. In 1859, Mr. Todd moved to Fayetteville with his parents and has ever since resided here. He was twice married, his first wife was Miss Delle Stilwell, who died December 23, 1881. He afterwards married Miss Gertrude Mead, who died September 1899. He was a devoted husband and brotherand exceedingly attached to his home on the farm. As declining years approached, he never desired to leave it, but continued his duties as far as he was able. It may truely be said that a good man has gone to his reward. Mr. Todd was a man of much strength and character, meeting the changes of life with a firmness borne of the christian faith. The typical New England XXX [illegible] which he inherited from his parents showed himself in his unswerving devotion to truth and right. The funeral was held from his late home yesterday, January XXX [illegible] at 11 o'clock. Rev. Percy B. Wightman of the Presbyterian Church, of which the deceased was a member, conducted the last rites. The remains were placed in the receiving vault in Fayetteville cemetery.
