Mabel Gertrude Mitchell was born in Cohasset, Massachusetts on March 12, 1898 to Frank Antoine Mitchell and Phoebe Fratus. Her siblings are: Elizabeth Anna who married Charles Henry Pratt; George Franklin who married Lucy Dunbar Marsh; Walter; Charles Augustus who married Myra; Frederick who married Mary Catherine Campbell; Lillian Frances who married Sumner Otis Crane; Isabell who married John James Rhodes; Joseph who married Grace L Cowing; and Margaret Ellen who married Harold Lane.

Mabel married Leon Blakeman and had two children: Leon Blakeman Jr and Pauline Blakeman who married Hobart J Thrasher. Hobart died in WWII and Pauline remarried to Robert J Henn.
