In the fall of 1905, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Beckwith and children George, Mabel, Frank, Ralph, and Ruth, left their home in Missouri and traveled to Pierre, South Dakota by train. Along with household goods and two teams and two covered wagons all by immigrant car. On their arrival at Pierre, the family gathered their possessions and crossed the Missouri River by ferry, which was operated by Oleson and Senechal. Buying a supply of groceries, they started on the seventy mile journey to the place near Cheyenne River where Amos Beckwith had formerly filed a claim. The Beckwith sod house was the only on Robb's Flat except John Robb's. Amos and Laura raised all of their children on Robbs Flat.
