Mrs. Burgess was born March 14, 1923, in Randolph County, N.C., the daughter of William E. "Will" Hicks and Dora Fogleman Hicks.

She attended Staley High School, earned her cosmetology license from Troutman Beauty College and was certified in electrolysis at the Kree Institute in New York City. She attended Asheboro Friends Meeting after moving to Asheboro from Ramsuer. She died at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro, NC.

VIRGINIA ALLENE HICKS BURGESS

ASHEBORO - Virginia Allene Hicks Burgess, 85, of Lexington Place, Asheboro, died on Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, with Reverends Ken and Pat Thames officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro.
Mrs. Burgess was born March 14, 1923, in Randolph County, N.C., the daughter of William E. "Will" Hicks and Dora Fogleman Hicks.
She attended Staley High School, earned her cosmetology license from Troutman Beauty College and was certified in electrolysis at the Kree Institute in New York City. She attended Asheboro Friends Meeting after moving to Asheboro from Ramsuer. Mrs. Burgess had previously attended Moon's Chapel Baptist Church in Siler City.
She is survived by her son, Larry B. and wife, Helen Marley, of Asheboro; sister, Janie H. and husband, Davis Jr. Salmon, of Pinehurst, N.C.; step-son, William J. "Bill" and wife, Wanda Burgess, of Kingsport, Tenn.; and step-grandchildren, Martha Diehl and Bill Parham.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 19, at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, N.C., and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Asheboro Friends Meeting, 230 E. Kivett St., Asheboro, NC 27203, or to Moon's Chapel Baptist Church, 175 Moon's Chapel Church Rd., Siler City, NC 27344.

Virginia Alene Burgess

ASHEBORO - Virginia Alene Hicks Burgess, 85, of 220 Lexington Place, Asheboro, died Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
The funeral was held May 20, 2008, at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro, with the Revs. Ken and Pat Thames officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Park.
She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of James Nelson Burgess, attended Staley High School, graduated from Troutman Beauty College and Kree Institute in New York City, attended Asheboro Friends Meeting and had operated beauty shops in Staley, Vass and Ramseur.
Surviving are her son, Larry B. Marley of Asheboro; stepson, William J. (Bill) Burgess of Kingsport, Tenn.; sister, Janie H. Salmon of Pinehurst; two stepgrandchildren.
