INDIAN WAR VET CALLED BY DEATH

Richard Solomon Blackwell, 84, pioneer Oregon resident and veteran of the Bannock Indian war, died Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. M. Colvin of Oregon City. Funeral services will be held in Oregon City Monday, with interment in Riverview cemetery.

Born April 1, 1853, at Van Buren, Ark., he married Martha C. Byrd in September of 1870. She bore him three children, William C., Nancy and John Ann Blackwell.

Following the death of his first wife, he married Margaret M. Cobb in 1885. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1935. Six children survive from this union. They are Miner L. and Sherman Blackwell of Monument, Or.; James B. of Yachats, Mrs. D. R. Long of Ione, Or.; Mrs. E. M. Colvin of Oregon City and Mrs. A. C. Ford of Portland.

Crossing the great plains by mule-team in 1875, Mr. Blackwell settled in Grant county, Or., engaging in farming and stock raising there for the greater part of his life. He moved to Portland four years ago.
