Merrill Clayton Chorn passed on to a better place Saturday, August 11, 1990 finally, to be `together again' with his sweetheart, Edna, who passed away July 3, 1978.
He was born November 14, 1912 in Boulder, Colorado to Fernando C. and Ethel E. Chorn. Merrill lived his early childhood in Park City and later in Salt Lake City. He was a jack-of-all-trades during WW II, working hard to support his wife and family. He later became an iron worker, member Iron Workers Local #27 until his death. He was an avid sportsman and taught his children and grandchildren to respect and care for our great-out-doors, long before conservation became a public issue. Before his illness in 1986, Merrill kept an immaculate home and his yard and gardens were a show place.He was a devoted husband to Edna Whittle, whom he married on September 6, 1934. He was a loving and devoted Dad to his son, Larry P Chorn, of Salt Lake City; and his daughter, Marilyn Green, of Midvale. `We miss you Pa.' Also survived by seven grandchildren, Richard A. Jones, Christine Jones, Ed W. Jones, Diane Jones, Kerry Merrill Jones, Rebecca Ann Chorn, and Melissa Chorn Jackson; three great-grandchildren, Brooke, Ricky, and Cody Jones; son-in-law, John Green; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by two brothers, George and Abe; two sisters, Ruth and Harriett; and an infant son, Richard.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, 12 noon, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive. Funeral directors, Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary.
