Merle Archie DeBolt, born April 9, 1923 on a farm in Pottawattamie County, Iowa. He passed away July 20, 2006 at his home in Carson, Washington.

He was one of 11 children born to Mathilda (Kruse) DeBolt and Lester L. DeBolt.

He married Elmerna L McCoun December 22, 1950. To this union were born two children, Paul Merle DeBolt and Charles Stuart DeBolt.

He was preceded in death by his infant son Charles Stuart, his parents, three brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife Elmerna, his son Paul, daughter-in-law Ann and four grandchildren, Brian, Lisa, Nathan and Aaron DeBolt.

Merle became a resident of Skamania County in 1961 obtaining employment with the U.S. Forest Service; first at the Willard Ranger District and later at the Wind River Ranger District.

He retired in 1989 from the U.S. Forest Service after nearly 30 years. He served most of his career as a well respected Timber Sales Administrator.

He enjoyed square dancing, working in his yard and keeping in touch with friends he had worked with. He was an active member of the Stevenson United Methodist Church for 40 years.
