Birth: Dec. 1, 1916
Windham County
Vermont, USA
Death: Jul. 9, 1944, France

Lawrence was BAR (Browning AutomatIc Rifleman) in Company F,175th Regiment, 29th (Blue and Gray Division). According to the records, the 1st and 29th Div. landed on Omaha Beach. A reference to the fact that Larry's unit went in on the second day, June 7, 1944. He fought all the way to St. Lo, where he was killed on July 9,1944. His body was returned to Florence in ( I believe), 1947. Larry was a Pvt. I have reason to believe that he had received a battlefield promotion because he sent home a (V)mail from St. Lo stating that he had "picked up a few hooks (stripes) on my sleeve". A few days later he was dead. I think it was a battle field promotion that never got recorded. St Lo was a pretty busy place, and whoever made him a Sergeant may never had the time to record it. Larry said that the "hooks" made him responsible for others, whereas before, he was mainly responsible for himself.
