HAZEL V. JOHNSON FINAL RITES HELD
Final rites were conducted for Mrs. Hazel V. Johnson in the Christ Memorial United Methodist Church in Bloomfield on Monday, March 25th, 1974, at 11 A.M., Rev. Hiram Lilley was the clergyman. The soloist was Mrs. Don Willets, who sang "In The Garden" and "Beyond The Sunset," accompanied by Mrs. Wayne Carpenter at the organ.
Honorary pall bearers included Wm. N. Iseman, Jr., L. D. Moson, Glen Emmons, Ray Sclote, William Paustian, and Carl Broeker. Active pallbearers were Don Skalberg, James Skalberg, Leland Skalberg, Richard Skalberg, Sheldon Lind, and Sterling N. Peterson. Arrangements were by Scott Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Nebraska. Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Wausa, Nebraska.
Hazel Viola Skalberg, Johnson, was born January 8, 1895, at Wausa, Nebraska to Mr. and Mrs. John August Skalberg (nee) Hannah Peterson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Mission Covenant Church in Wausa, Nebraska, where she became a member until 1963 when she joined Christ Memorial United Methodist Church in Bloomfield, Nebraska. She attended rural schools in Knox County and worked in Omaha previous to her marriage June 13, 1916 to Norris W. Johnson at her parents home near Wausa, Nebraska.
To this union four children were born, Neville, Irene, Leslie, and Roger. They farmed in the Wausa community until Mr. Johnson's death in 1957. She moved to her home in Bloomfield in 1962 where she resided until she was admitted to the Lundberg Memorial Hospital in Creighton, Nebraska on March 11, 1974 and passed away there March 21, 1974 at the age of 79 years, 2 months, and 13 days.
She leaves to mourn her 4 children, Neville, Hartington, Mrs. Kenneth (Irene) Kohn, Newville, Pennsylvania, Leslie, Flandeau, South Dakota, and Rodney of Hartington; three daughter-in-laws, one son-in-law, and 14 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; four sisters, Mrs. Edward (Mamie) Olson from Oceanside, California, Mrs. Harry (Emma) Peterson of Brookings, South Dakota, Mrs. Elmer (Crystal) Holmquist of Omaha, Nebraska, and Mrs. Anthon (Rose) Swanson, Wausa, Nebraska. Two brothers, Roy Skalberg from East Moline, Illinois, and Norris Skalberg of Phoenix, Arizona. Also numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, and one sister.
