"Sam Carter Rites Held" "Sam Carter, stockman and rancher in the Burns area until moving March 14 to Vale, was stricken with a heart attack and passed away at Holy Rosary Hospital, Ontario, Friday of last week. Samuel M. Carter was born at Long Creek, Oregon, April 4, 1907, and was married to Veva Louise Lowe of Prairie City, August 28, 1935. Besides his wife, Veva, he leaves to mourn his passing two sons and three daughters, Jimmie, Douglas, Wanda, Mary and Myra; his mother, Mrs. Martha Carter of Long Creek; four brothers and two sisters, Thomas L., Billings, Mont., Benton and Ted of Long Creek, Bob of Mt. Vernon, Estella Boyer of John Day and Leitha Parsons of The Dalles as well as many business associates and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon from the First Christian Church with Rev. Len B. Fishback officiating. Interment was in the Burns Cemetery, where his son Sammie Joe, killed in a stock handling accident, was buried October 17, 1952. Leonard Arntz sang "It Is No Secret," Helen Dickenson, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," and Dr. John Weare, "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." Pallbearers were Ray Weeks, Lloyd Ogilvie, W. G. Sheppard, Tommie Turner, Joe Fine and Orville Corbett." (Burns Times Herald, April 1953, Burns, Harney, Oregon)
