Ref: Carbonate Chronicle, Leadville, CO, 11 Jan. 1915 – From Tuesdays' Daily – Death of Joseph A. Orr – Joseph A. Orr, a miner in Leadville for a number of years, died at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his home, 404 East Eighth, following an illness of several weeks of Brights disease. He was 56 years old.
The miner had been discharged from a hospital shortly before Christmas, and was feeling well at that time. A short time later, however, he was stricken with the last attack of the disease which ended in his death. He had lived at 404 East Eighth Street alone for sometime, following the death of his second wife, a few years ago. During his last illness he had been cared for by neighbors.
Friends of the miner believed he came to Leadville in 1890. None of his relatives are living in the city at the present time. John Orr, a brother, who was at one time interested in a co-operative grocery store in East Fifth Street, resides at Red Mesa, CO, near Durango. He was notified of his brother's death yesterday.
Will Fackler, a stepson, who formerly lived here, is at present in Nevada near Mispah.
Arrangements for the funeral services will await word from the brother at Red Mesa.
Ref: Carbonate Chronicle, Leadville, CO - 18 Jan. 1915 - Funeral of Joseph Orr – The late Joseph A. Orr was buried in the A.O.U.W. cemetery yesterday afternoon, following services at two o'clock at The Chapel of the Meynahan and O'Malla Undertaking Company at which a number of his old friends paid their last tributes. The services were conducted by the Rev. David McMartin, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church.
Acting as pall bearers were: Messrs. James Olds, Richard Owens, M. D. Hollister, George Wix, C. O. Thompson and J. R. Edwards.
Mr. Orr, who had been a miner in Leadville for a number of years, died on Jan. 4, at his home at 404 East Eighth Street. He had no relatives in the city at the time of his death through a brother, John, who lives at present at Red Mesa, CO, had managed a co-operative grocery store here in East Fifth Street several years ago. Will Fackler, a stepson, of Miller, NV, arrived in the city last week, and attended the services yesterday. All effort to notify the brother at Red Mesa proved unsuccessful. The brother lives on a ranch a number of miles from a post office and there is no telephone line running to Red Mesa from Durango or other nearby towns. All telephone connection with the nearest points last week was broken by a snowstorm. Letters which are also written had brought no replies up to last night.
