Obituary: John Lund Bawden

John Lund Bawden 1928 ~ 2006 John Lund Bawden, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and family on April 11, 2006. He died from complications of injuries related to a stroke. John was born March 18, 1928, in Granger, Utah, the youngest of seven children born to Willard G. and Annie Wallace Bawden. He grew up in Granger and graduated from Cyprus High School in 1946. He then joined the Army and served 18 months as a Paratrooper in the 182nd Airborne. John served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central States Mission from 1948-1950. He then attended the University of Utah and graduated from the college of Pharmacy in 1953. John married the love of his life, Norma Coats on March 16, 1951. They had just celebrated their 55th anniversary and John's 78th birthday in March. John and Norma moved their family from Granger to Provo 40 years ago when John accepted the position of Chief Pharmacist at Utah Valley Hospital. Previously, he had been administrator & pharmacist at Valley West Hospital in Granger. He was president of the Utah Pharmaceutical Association. He opened Edgemont Pharmacy and with the devoted help of Norma, Barbara, Julie & Jim, they developed a thriving business and made many wonderful friends. John and Norma were blessed to have six wonderful children and 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He loved the Lord and served diligently in several bishoprics and as a bishop. He served on two BYU high councils and as financial clerk for many years. He had great passion for Temple work and was serving as an ordinance worker in the Provo Temple the past eight years where he was very much loved and appreciated. He was a kind, loving, wonderful husband, father and grandfather and we will miss him and we know we will be with him again, forever. John loved his family, he loved camping and traveling and being with his sweetheart. They particularly enjoyed the canyons of Southern Utah. He was always so proud of his wonderful children and grandchildren and loved them dearly. He is survived by his loving wife, Norma, and his children: James (Cindy), Brenda (Ed) Edwards, Brian, Janene (Brent) Nordin, Julie (David) Bailey, Barbara Brawden Mendenhall and a brother, Reul J. Bawden. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 15, 2006, at 12 noon in the Edgemont 1st Ward Chapel, 300 W. 3700 N., Provo. Family and friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem and from 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
