ANOTHER PIONEER PASSES AWAY.
Mrs. Andrew Foster died at the home of her son Julian in Salem on Wednesday morning, Dec. 9, 1896, aged 86 years.
Prudence Cornwell was born in Marcillus, N.Y., June 11, 1808. When 5 years old her parents removed to Hannibal, N.Y., where she continued to reside until she came with her husband to Wisconsin. She was married to Andrew William Foster in Hannibal, N.Y., July 4, 1830, when she was 22 years of age. Mr. Foster came with his family to Wisconsin in 1841 and settled in the town of Salem, which has ever since been their home. Mr. Foster died Jan. 4, 1892, aged 85 years. Their children numbered six, five of whom are living: Mrs. Adaline Basset; Mrs. Betsey Plank, California; Andrew Foster, Genoa, Wis.; Orlando Foster, Silver Lake; Julian Foster, Salem. Her long residence, fifty-five years, in the town of Salem, gave her a wide acquaintance and she was universally held in high esteem and respect. She was of retiring disposition, but always helpful and kindly. The fragrance of her life came from the never failing devotion to her duties as wife, mother, neighbor and friend. Her religion was always to do right. The last nine days of her life she grew rapidly weaker and suffered severe pain. Her sons and their wives ministered at her bedside with loving solicitude, and up to the day before she died was able to converse with them and knew them all and expressed herself as being ready and willing to go.
The funeral occurred on Friday and her remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband in the little cemetery not far from her old home.
