EDGERTON - Leona R. Betts, 78, of Edgerton, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at Flower Hospital in Sylvania where she was a patient.
Born Aug. 16, 1927, near Edgerton, in Defiance County, to Rosa (Valet) and Paul D. Krill, she married Wayne R. Betts on June 28, 1953, at Emanuel United Methodist Church near Edgerton and he survives.
A 1945 graduate of Edgerton High School, she received bachelor and master degrees in music education from Bowling Green State University in 1950 and 1951. She taught music for 32 years, starting in the Wauseon and Hicksville school districts and finishing her career with 27 years of service in the Edgerton Local school district.
She was a member of the Williams County Retired Teacher Association. She was also a member of the Emanuel United Methodist Church, where she was currently the president of the United Methodist Women. She was the organist and pianist for Emanuel United Methodist Church for nearly 50 years and also was choir director for many years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, John Betts of Bryan and Darrell (and wife, Teresa) Betts of Toledo; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ralph (Mary) Krill and Dale Krill, both of Edgerton.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Laurie Stark in 1993.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, and Friday from 1-2 p.m. in the Edgerton United Methodist Church.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the church with Pastor Tim Gleason to officiate. Burial will follow in Tamarack Cemetery in Defiance County near Edgerton.
