George W. Leifheit, 59, of Aurora, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, September 20, 2005. He was born June 1, 1946 in Rockford, IL the son of Veda Leifheit and the late George H. Leifheit.
George served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He worked for the Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad for 34 years as a locomotive engineer.
George was an avid golfer and woodworker and greatly enjoyed working in his yard.
Survivors include his wife, Paula of Aurora; his children, Deanna (Jon) Spanu and Meredith Leifheit both of Aurora; his granddaughter, Riley Spanu of Aurora; his mother, Veda Leifheit of Dunedin, FL; a sister, Sandra (Charles) Van Stone of Largo, FL; as well as many nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his father, George H. Leifheit; and a sister, Sharon Davis.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, September 26, 2005 at The Healy Chapel 332 W. Downer Pl., Aurora with Rev. Timothy Baltz officiating. Interment will be at Spring Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-6 P.M. on Sunday, September 25, 2005 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be directed to Leader Dogs for the Blind.
