Samuel was born to George H. and Hannah P. (Gault) Barnes.

His family lived in Altoona and in 1900 had children: Winfield(b. 9-1891), Catherine (b. 9-1893), Edgar(b. 7-1895), and Samuel(B. 11-1897)

Samuel, at age 25, married Alverda Piper, then age 21.

They lived in Duncansville and Samuel worked in a restaurant.

Samuel and Alverda had a son Paul born June 2, 1923. He died in a hospital in Leyte, two days after being wounded in action there.

SAMUEL BARNES

Of the Dry Run road, Duncansville, R.D. 2, died at 9.10 o'clock this morning in the Altoona Veterans Administration hospital after an extended illness. He was born in Altoona Nov. 27, 1897, a son of George and Hannah (Gault) Barnes, and married Miss Alverda Piper Feb. 21, 1923. Mr. Barnes was a veteran of service in the infantry in World war I. Surviving are his wife, his mother, of Duncansville, and the following brothers and sisters: Winfield S. of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Fred Grasser of Buffalo, N.Y., Edgar K. of Pittsburgh, Francis J. and Mrs. Sarah Duck of Hollidaysburg, Robert R. of Altoona, Joseph H., Mrs. Charles Wyerman and Mrs. Alice Leidy of Duncansville. A son, Paul R., serving in the army, was killed in action on Leyte, P.I., March 2, 1945. Friends will be received at the Laughlin funeral home after 7 o'clock tomorrow evening.
