Freeport, July 28—Mrs. Matilda
F. Leyboldt, wife of former Fire
Chief Fred Leyboldt, who headed
the Hempstead Fire Department for
many years, died Monday after a
long Illness. She was 65 and lived
at 164 Denhoff Ave this village.,
Mrs. Leyboldt, who was born in
Brooklyn, had lived in Freeport for
more than 40 years. Active for
many years in the Hempstead
Women's Auxiliary of the Fire
Department, she served as its
treasurer for several terms.
Funeral services will be held at
8. p.m. Thursday at the Howland
Funeral Home, 46 Greenwich St.,
Hempstead. Burial wlll be in Greenfield
Cemetery.
Surviving besides her husband
are a daughter, Mrs. Edith F.
Campbell of this place; two sons,
Lester C. Essex of Westbury and
Fred H. Leyboldt [Jr.] with the U. S.
Navy; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth
Hager and Mrs. Irene Vining; a
brother, A. C. Savidge of Roosevelt,
aid four grandchildren.
