Virden—Dorsea Billingsley, 92, of Virden, IL passed away at 2:45 A.M. Sunday February 1, 2010 at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, IL.

Dorsea was born October 17, 1917 in Hartsburg, IL the daughter of Jacob & Margaret (Behrends) Rademaker. She married Hal H. Billingsley in 1940; he precedes her in death.

Dorsea was a graduate of Virden High School, class of 1935. She also graduated from Missouri Business College in St. Louis, MO.

Dorsea was an avid reader, loved gardening, enjoyed her animals and birds and loved to travel. The love of Dorsea's life was her church and all it stood for, her beloved family and her many wonderful friends.

Dorsea worked as a grocery clerk, waitress, nurse's aid and a medical secretary prior to her 34 years of service with the State of Illinois. During her employment with the State Dorsea worked for Illinois Department of Public Health for 16 years and spent the next 18 years with the Department on Aging retiring in 1991 as Chief of the Bureau of Office Management.

Dorsea was an active member of the Virden Church of the Brethren for over 80 years. She taught Sunday school, was a member of the Choir and a member of various committees. She and Hal served as counselors for many years at the church. Dorsea loved music singing with a trio who sang for church and city functions. In the late 30's and 40's they sang with various bands.

Dorsea was a past member of the Springfield Chapter of Sweet Adeline's serving two terms as president and elected delegate to the National Convention in Hawaii, New York City and Washington, D.C. creating her enthusiasm for travel. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Virden Woman's Club, a life member of the Macoupin County Historical Society, a past member of the Illinois Public Health Association where she served on the board for a term.

Dorsea is survived by two sons, Bruce (Gail) Billingsley of Warren, MI, Stephen (Carol) Billingsley of Daytona Beach, FL, sister, Georgianna (Bob) Costley of Albuquerque, NM, three granddaughters, Stephanie (Ron) Ross of Holly Hill, FL, Angela (Tony) Fatato of Kalamazoo, MI, Jennifer (Justin) Riley and 2 great grandsons, Brayden Jacob and Rogan Riley of Plainwell, MI, 2 nieces, Kathleen (Tim) Townes and Mary Kay (Henry) Garcia both of Albuquerque, NM, 1 nephew, Kent (Catherine) Costley of Santa Clarita, CA; 2 step-great grandsons, Korbin & Josh and 6 cousins. Preceding Dorsea in death were her parents, husband, Hal H. Billingsley and granddaughter, Laurie Ann Billingsley.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday February 5, 2010 at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home in Virden, IL. Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday February 6, 2010 at the Virden Church of the Brethren with visitation one hour before service time with the Rev. Rich McElfresh officiating. Memorials may be made to the Virden Church of the Brethren or to Prairie Land Community Ambulance Service. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Virden, IL.
