Long time businessman, James William "Buddy" Carpenter passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2007.He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, August 31, 1920 to Tillie Uldrich Carpenter and James Everett Carpenter. He grew up and attended school in Moore, Oklahoma.
After World War II and Buddy's discharge from the Navy, the family moved to Bristow, Oklahoma where he became aware of the oil boom in Texas. It wasn't long before the family relocated to Odessa where Buddy found employment with an old family friend, Buck Buckley, and his partner, Otis Moore, at M & B Fishing Tool Company. As time went on, Buddy left M & B Fishing Tool Company, and in the spirit of entrepreneurship and the great American dream, pursued his own endeavors. Throughout his career as a businessman in Odessa he founded Eagle Fishing Tool Company, Liberty Reverse Units, Sun Fishing and Rental Tool Company and owned All, Incorporated.
For a number of years Buddy or "Jay" as his wife, Eileen, referred to him, loved owning and flying airplanes until his last one was stolen. His passion subsequently turned to RV travel throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico with Eileen and their friends. He enjoyed playing golf, loved to fish, and fried the best fish in the land.
The Woodson Boys Club of Odessa held a very special place in Buddy's heart to which his dear friend, Wilmer Ray, will attest. For a brief period of time he volunteered at Medical Center Hospital and delivered Meals on Wheels with Eileen. He was a member of Odessa Country Club for many years and a charter member of Grace Christian Fellowship Church.
Buddy was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen, in November, 2006. He is survived by J. Dan Carpenter and wife, Margaret, of Odessa; Kathryn "Kay" Carpenter Batte and husband, Bobby Allen Batte, of Odessa; and Dr. James William " Bill" Carpenter of Midland; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
