Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, Feb 25 2002 - Nora Lucille Thompson, 81, died at her home at Urich on Saturday, February 9, 2002. Lucille was born on August 26, 1920, the only child of Emmett and Ethel May (Long) Doll. She attended Lucas School. On January 18, 1938, Lucille married William Clayton Thompson in Kansas City and the two set up housekeeping on the Wright property on Oak Street in Urich, paying a rent of $6 a month. Their only child, a son, William Emmett was born December 8, 1940. William enlisted in the Marine Corps during World War II following his discharge, the family moved to Kansas where they lived and worked until moving back to Henry County. They returned to live in Urich in 1973. Lucille lived in the family home in Urich that William's father, Emmett, had built for his bride in 1904 at a cost of $750. Lucille was interested in community service and was a living encyclopedia of local events and government issues. She took great pride in her community and strived to improve it wherever she could. She was preceded in death by her husband, William. She is survived by her son, William Emmett Thompson of McKinny, Texas; four grandchildren, Michael J. Thompson, Sherrie L. Combs, Leonard Noland Thompson and Emmie Danielle Thompson; great-grandchildren, Casandra Couch and Jenny Lee, and great-great-grandchildren, Brandan and Noah Couch.
