James Wilbur Savage married Ruth G. (Foskett) Savage in Howell, Missouri on February 28, 1941.

James Wilber Savage, 83, of Independence, Missouri, passed away April 18, 1989, at The Park Lane Medical Center, Raytown, Missouri.

Brother Savage was born September 27, 1905, at Wilber, Nebraska, to Emma Cecile (Rider) and Zebulon Wilber Savage.

On March 2, 1941, at West Plains, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Ruth G. Foskett, his wife and companion for over 48 years.

On January 5, 1930, Brother Savage was baptized and confirmed at Colorado Springs, Colorado, into The Church of Christ by Elder W.P. Buckley. He was called into the priesthood in the 12th verse of the 21st Message and was ordained an Elder by Apostle Thomas B. Nerren on June 1, 1930. In the 7th verse of the 38th Message, Brother Savage was given additional responsibility and on April 2, 1939, he was ordained a Bishop by Apostle Joseph H. Camp. On January 9, 1977, Brother Savage was ordained as an Apostle in The Church of Christ by Apostles W.A. Draves, L.M. Thornton and James Bernard, after being called to this office and responsibility in verse 12 of the 96th Message.

Brother Savage devoted his adult life in spreading and promoting the Gospel of Christ. He was in the missionary field in Florida, Colorado, Utah and Arizona before being called to Independence, Missouri in 1943 to assume the office of Secretary-Treasurer of the Bishops of The Church of Christ, holding this office until 1977. Brother Savage continued his work in the headquarter's office of the church from 1977 until his passing, as Church Historian and Representative.

In his later years he made 2 missionary trips to Africa and India as well as many visits on behalf of the Church to parts the United States and Canada.

Brother Savage is survived by his wife, Ruth G. Savage; five sons: Gerald Savage of Stover, Missouri, James C. Savage, John E. Savage, and Paul D. Savage all of Independence, Missouri, and Timothy L. Savage of Florissant, Missouri; three daughters: Lucille Ruth Savage of Independence, Missouri, Laura Jean O'Keefe of Eckert, Colorado and Lola Merie Brown of Dawn, Missouri. 25 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday 21, 1989 at the George C. Carson and Sons Funeral Home in Independence, Missouri, with Apostle John O'Keefe officiating, assisted by Elder James Sorgen, with burial in the Salem Cemetery, Independence, Missouri.
