OBITUARY:
JAMES DIMON GROSS
James Dimon Gross, 84, brother of Mrs. Frank King, Genoa, died at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Elgin State Hospital, where he had been a patient for nearly two years. Funeral services will take place Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Kingston, with Rev. R. E. Berthards, retired pastor, Genoa, officiating. Burial will be at the Kingston cemetery. Friends may call at the Cooper Funeral Home in Genoa from 7 p.m. Friday until noon Saturday. Born August 17, 1870, in Mayfield Township, son of Joseph and Jennie Dimon Gross, pioneer residents of Mayfield community, the deceased attended rural schools in Mayfield and high school at Kirkland. He engaged in farming as a young man and made that his life's occupation. On January 20, 1892, he married Alta Wyllys, Kingston. They farmed near Esmond until 1917, when they moved to Rockford, later moving to Davis Junction, where he resumed farming. They next located on their own farm near Beloit, Wis., where Mrs. Gross died December 16, 1945. Mr. Gross then lived with his sister, Mrs. Frank King and husband of Genoa for four years, and since then in the homes of his three children, until two years ago. He had been in failing health for four years. A member of the Methodist Church since early youth, he had transferred his membership to the Genoa Methodist Church. Surviving are a son, Wyllys, Winnebago; two daughters, Mrs. Eva Roush, Rockford, and Mrs. Gladys Klatt, Janesville, Wis; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
