Marian Ethel Welch Mayo's paternal grandparents were Newton Thomas Welch and Mary Bell Pippin Welch; her maternal grandparents were and Norman Edward Nesbit and Anna Chastina Pratt Nesbit. Marian's mother, Ethel Lillian Nesbitt Welch, changed the spelling of Nesbit to Nesbitt.

Marian Ethel Welch Mayo was born in Eau Gallie Fl. She and her family moved to St Augustine FL where she attended school. Marian graduated from Ketterlinus High School in St Augustine in 1941. After high school she went to Florida State College for Women and graduated in 1945 which was the last year before it became Florida State University in 1946.

Marian Welch and William Davidson Mayo were married at Flagler Presbyterian Church in St Augustine FL on 25 May 1946. She and her husband moved to Tallahassee. Marian was a teacher of Physical Education at Leon High School in Tallahassee until she retired in 1962.

From there they lived, worked, raised their children, participated in community and church activities for the remainder of their lives.

Marian was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
