Son of Arthur 'Bootie' Groves and Mabel Cleaver Groves.
Widower of Lillian Hoffner Groves who passed away in 1993.
Father of Lynda Jeanes and Nancy Wallace.
He was a 1938 graduate of Chestertown High School.
Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe with the 911th Ordnance for two years.
He had many World War II stories to share and was very proud of his service to his country.
Jim's career as a farmer began in 1945 working as a manager for area beef farms.
He was a charter member of the Upper Bay Ruritans and a 50 year member of Harlon Valley Masonic Lodge 827 in Woodstock, N.Y.
He was also a member of American Legion Post 15 and VFW Post 8175 in Elkton.
