Killed by a Train
Valentine Baitz who lived at Atlanta and was deaf, started to walk to Arcadia Tuesday morning on the L.E. and W. railroad truck to look after property here he was about to get it with a view of locating here. The unfortunate man had gotten as far as Essig's grove, north of town when the Pennsylvania freight came along. The train whistled but the deaf man remained on the track. By the time the engineer realized the situation the train was so close and running at such great speed that it could not be stopped. Mr. Baitz was struck and instantly killed. His left foot and ankle was crushed and his head horribly bruised. He was at once taken to the home of his son in law, Albert Langolf where he was prepared for burial. The remains were laid to rest in the Dunkard cemetery at 10 a.m. yesterday.
